  Description

You have everything you ever wanted, until you run into someone that takes your breath away. Would you put a price on love? How much would you pay? Sam is a man that has everything, everything except love. He tries to buy it, puts a price on it. But with Violet, she refuses to let him get to her. She knows what kind of man he is. She refuses him and he becomes obsessed. Sam will do anything to get to Violet. And when he does, he has the biggest price to pay or is it Violet who has to pay the price?

  Chapter 1

“Well Sam, are you ready for the event next week?” Todd asks.

Sam laughs, “They are all the same. Since I am free now, let the line begin.”

Todd shakes his head. “Sometimes I think you’re the luckiest man out there.”

“Luck has nothing to do with it, it’s the wallet. Do you have a date?”

  “Hmmm, maybe, we will see.”

Sam is rich, handsome and he knew it. He has a multi-billion dollar cooperation and he lived the dream. He wasn’t afraid to show his wealth or use his clout. Everyone knew him where ever he went. He had the best of everything. Sam is every woman’s dream. Many women tried to marry him. But he only used them. He knew they were only after his money. He fell once for a woman and that’s all it took. He never had a relationship after that. The women he did have, lasted no more than a couple months. He would sweep them off their feet, wine them dine them. He treated them like queens. When he tired of them, he would throw them away and move on to the next. It was a way of living for him. He broke a lot of hearts but he didn’t care, a lot of women hated but loved him.

He would be up front with most of them and tell them, “I will wine you dine you and treat you like a queen. But when my infatuation with you is over so are we.” A lot of woman accepted it because the gifts they got were exquisite. Sam let them keep the gifts for their time well spent. Sometimes he ran into trouble with a few of them, but in the end, he always won. Most women knew of his ways and just wanted to be with him because of the gifts. They would give anything to have a shot with Sam. They would stand in line at parties and events hoping he would pick them. Some even thought they were the one, they could change him. But all of them were wrong. Sam knew this, but he didn’t care as long as he got what he wanted. And had his fun, he was satisfied.

Todd and Sam became friends when Todd first started working for the company. He impressed Sam right from the beginning. Sam always made it a point for Todd to show up at these events. Even though Todd hated them, he would show.

“Ding, ding, ding.” A sound of a bell went off. “Order up Violet.” Calls the cook.

Violet grabs the orders and heads for the tables, she saw Todd walk in. “Hey Todd be right with you.” She smiled. Todd sat at a table and waited for Violet.

“Isn’t it a little past your dinner time?” Violet says as she walks to where Todd is sitting.

“I am not here to eat. I need to ask you something.”

  “And what would that be?”

“Well, you know about all the events my company has right?”

“Yes, you tell me about them all the time.”

“I would really like to go with a date this time.” He just kind of smiled and looked up at Violet.

Violet stared at him for a second, and then realized what he was asking. “Oh no Todd I couldn’t.”

  “Why not?”

“Umm, I don’t think I would fit in.”

  “Please, please Violet.”

“You know I don’t own anything fancy enough to go to one of those parties.”

“Ding, ding, ding, …order up Violet.”

“Be right back.” Violet went and got the order, she wanted to go but yet didn’t. She knew it would be all too fancy for her. Then she glanced over at Todd and he looked a little disappointed. After she served the table she walked back over to him.

  “Todd…”

“Violet, I can help you get something to wear, if that’s what you’re worried about.” Todd looked up at her hoping.

As Violet looked at him she saw he was hoping so much she would say yes. “Okay, Todd I will go but…”

Todd jumped up and hugged her. “Thank you, Thank you Violet.” He kissed her cheek.

“Don’t thank me yet,” she chuckled.

“I promise Violet, if you get uncomfortable we can leave whenever you want.”

“Okay, okay. But you owe me for this.” She smiled at him.

“Ding, ding, ding, …order up Violet.”

Violet looked at Todd with a grin. “Gotta run Todd.”

Todd waved as he walked out the door. “Call you tonight.” And he was gone. Violet took a deep breath and went to get the order.

Todd and Violet meet in their late teens and became fast friends. Todd moved away when he landed a job working for a big company. The company Todd worked for always had big events. He would tell Violet of them all the time.

Violet was a waitress she worked really hard. She just moved to the city. Todd talked her into it. She was just getting used to this new life. She was a sweet loving person, full of life and energy. She wasn’t materialistic, but she liked things clean and tidy.

She always looked for sales and spent very wisely. She was very pretty, with long blonde hair, light brown eyes that looked almost gold at times. She wasn’t sickly thin like most women she saw. She liked to swim in her spare time that’s how she kept so toned. She always wanted to learn to sail. She thought it would be the funniest thing in the world. Todd told her he knew some people that had a boat. He told her maybe one day they all could go out and they could teach her.

The night of the event came and Violet looked radiant. “Wow Violet, you look great!” Todd spun her around.

“Thanks,” she smiled and gave him a little bow. They both laughed as they walked out the door.

“I am so nervous Todd.” She looked at him.

“Don’t be. I don’t usually stay to long.”

  “Then why do you go?”

“My boss insist upon it.” He said and shrugged his shoulder.

They got into the limo and left. When they got to the event and walked in. Violet was taken aback by everything. It was so breathtaking to see such riches. She never dreamed this part of life existed before. Violet caught her breath and Todd could see the excitement Violet had. “Would you care to stay longer?” he questioned.

  “Yes Todd, I would.”
Violet is all smiles still looking around. So they decided to stay a little longer. Todd introduced her to a few people. Then Violet caught Sam’s eye. He couldn’t wait to meet her.

“I will go up and get us some drinks,” Todd said.

Violet smiled, “Nothing to strong,” she quickly said and continued to admire her surroundings.

When Todd left, Sam came up behind her. “You have to be the most beautiful woman here tonight.”

Violet gasps and turned around, then blushed. “Thank you,” she replied and she looked in the direction Todd went.

“I haven’t seen you before. What’s your name?”

  “Violet.” She softly said.

Sam picked up her hand and kissed it. “Charmed to meet you Violet, my name is Sam.”

Violet felt all flushed, she wasn’t used to this. Then she looked at him and said, “I am here with someone.” She pulled her hand away.

“Yes, Todd I see.” Sam nodded in the direction Todd was in.

“You two know each other?” Violet asked.

“You could say that. We sort of work for the same company,” he smiled.

Violet looked and Todd was coming back. “I see you met Sam,” he smiled and gave her, her drink.

“Todd, you never told me your girlfriend was such a beauty.” Sam said staring at Violet.

Todd looked and Sam and chuckled. “Violet and I are just good friends.” Violet just kind of glared at Todd, Sam made her nervous.

“Well then Violet, would you care to dance?” Sam asked.

Violet looked a Todd and he shrugged his shoulders. “I am not too good of a dancer,” and shook her head.

“I am quick on my feet. You won’t have to worry about stepping on my toes.” Sam said and he held out his arm. Violet handed Todd her drink and Sam led Violet to the dance floor. They danced for a while soon Violet started having a good time. The music stopped and Sam escorted her back to Todd. Then Sam saw someone motioning him over. “Excuse me I will be right back.” He excused himself and he left.

“Who was that Todd?” Violet asked.

“Only one of the richest bachelors around and it looks like he has a liking for you.” He chuckled.

Violet nudged him. “Well I have seen all of these women looking at him. I was wondering why. I didn’t know. Anyway why would he be interested in me?” she shrugged her shoulders.

“They all want him Violet. He showers them with gifts. He treats them like queens. But he tires of them fast, if you know what I mean. And you are a, breath of fresh air, I think.” He just kind of looked at her.

“Ah I get it, high priced hookers,” she sort of laughed.

“Well you could look at it like that if you wanted.” Todd laughed and shook his head.

“Well Todd, that’s too rich for me. I think it’s time we should be leaving. This breath of fresh air is ready to run out.”

  “Are you sure?”

  “Positive.”

“Okay, I will get our coats.”

They started walking to the entrance and Sam saw them ready to leave. When Todd went to get the coats Sam came up to Violet. “Leaving so soon?” he smiled.

“Yes, too much excitement for one night.” Violet looked around she was all flushed because she was excited. Everything was beautiful she had to take it all in.

Sam stepped close and picked up her hand. “Violet, I will wine you and dine you. I can treat you like a queen…” he started.

“I don’t need those things I am happy to be me,” she pointed around the room. “But they have been staring at you all night. I am sure any one of them would love to be your queen,” Her voice faded.

Sam just stood there he dropped her hand. He didn’t know what to think. He never has been turned down before. First he felt embarrassed then he felt insulted. He just stood and looked at Violet.

Todd came back. “Ready Violet?” and he handed her, her coat.

“Ready when you are,” she smiled.

“You don’t know what you will be missing Violet.” Sam said as he put his hand on her arm.

“Can’t miss what I don’t have,” she replied and pulled her arm away.

Sam stood there, more in shock then anything, as he watched Todd and Violet walk out the door.

When Violet and Todd got into the limo Violet said, “He is a little pushy isn’t he?”

Todd laughed “You are probably the first woman that has turned him down. The look on his face was priceless.”

“I don’t want to be one of his high priced hookers.” She laughed.

“Well Violet, you just set the stage. He is going to chase you until he get what he wants.” Todd just looked at her.

“Well he will be chasing for a long time. I am sure he will give up,” and shook her head.

“I don’t know Violet, he can be very persistent”

“Well I am sure I am not his kind Todd. I would bore him to tears,” and she laughed.

“I told you Violet, a breath of fresh air.” Todd just gave her a look.

Violet shook her head “It will get stale fast,” and she grinned.

The next day of work Sam got a hold of Todd. He was asking him all kinds of questions about Violet.

“Listen Sam, might as well stop while you’re ahead she isn’t interested. She isn’t like the women you’re used to.” Todd looked at him.

“Well maybe I want a change. Where does she work? Where does she live? What does she like?” Sam questioned

“I told you she will turn you down flat. She doesn’t want to be one of your high priced hookers, as she calls your woman.” Todd chuckled.

“Is that what she calls them? Well every woman has their price Todd. It’s just finding it. When I do, I will have my fun, for a while. I always do.” He grinned.

“Sam just leave her alone.” Todd pleaded.

“Why you have feelings for her?” Sam questioned.

“No, no we are just good friends. And I know how sensitive she can be. I don’t want to see her hurt that’s all.”

“There always a price to pay. And the pay will cover the hurt.” Sam just looked at him. There was no way Todd was going to talk Sam out of it. He knew if he didn’t tell him about Violet he would find out other ways. And his ways could be more embarrassing.

So he told Sam where she worked. He told him she wanted to learn to sail and she loved to swim. Sam thought sailing would be perfect. So he told Todd to invite her to go sailing this weekend with some friends. Todd told her before he would so nothing would seem out of the ordinary.

Violet was excited about the sailing trip she couldn’t wait. But she didn’t know what was in store for her. She didn’t think Todd would set her up like he did.

The day finally arrived and when they got to the boat she was all excited and couldn’t wait.

“Whose boat is this Todd?” she looked at him

“It’s mine.” Sam said as he walked down the dock. Violet turned and looked, then looked back at Todd her jaw dropped.

“I told you I had friends Violet.” Todd said. A couple more people followed they all got onto the boat and Violet just stood there.

“Aren’t you going to get in?” Sam asked.

“Isn’t it dangerous with all those people?” she questioned.

“No not really actually we can hold a couple more,” he reached out his hand.

Violet took his hand and went and stood by Todd.

“So what do we do first?” she looked around. The other people took their seats and started to drink.

“I don’t know Violet, I haven’t sailed before.” Todd said.

Sam smiled, “I will show you. Todd, why don’t you join the others?”

Violet looked at Todd he just shook his head. Violet glared at him when he sucked in a breath and let it out slowly. He turned and went to sit by the others.

Sam out reached his hand to Violet, “Come here and I will show you what to do.”

Violet was a little nervous but she did want to l
earn. Sam started teaching her what to do. He was telling her the names of things, “This is the bow, stern, portside…” He continued and told her what did what. She was listening, watching and then she started to relax and enjoy herself. Soon she was sailing the boat on her own. But Sam was standing right next to her.

  “You learn fast,” he smiled.

Violet was all smiles and she was so excited “Thanks. I have wanted to do this forever.” As the wind blew Sam got a better glimpse of her shape. He remembered Todd said she loved to swim. Was she prepared to go?

“Any one up for a swim?” he called out and looked at her.

“We are in the middle of the ocean!” Violet nervously replied.

Everyone sort of laughed “Were not in the middle of the ocean Violet” Todd said.

“We will take to boat over there,” and Sam pointed.

Violet saw a small beach off in the distance and smiled. “A swim sounds wonderful.” They got closer to shore and everyone striped to their swim suits and dove in. Sam was watching Violet, she was prepared. When she did strip down it took his breath away. She wasn’t a toothpick. She had shape and her muscle tone was amazing, he was very surprised. Violet was having a great time and Sam could tell. He poured on the charm and she smiled at him. He thought for sure he had her. When they got back to the docks everyone was getting off the boat. Sam stopped her “Did you enjoy yourself?”

“Yes, I had a wonderful time.” Violet replied.

“Would you like to go out again?” He asked.

“I would love to,” she smiled.

“How about we go out next weekend?” he asked

“Alone, with you? Out in the middle of the ocean?” Violet kind of laughed

  “Yes I thought…” he started.

“I don’t think so, not alone. I was born but not yesterday. I know what kind of man you are Sam.” She looked at him.

Then his watch started making funny noises. “This darn thing,” he started hitting it.

“Why don’t you just get a new one?” Violet asks.
